What the books are like

The short answer comes first

Each chapter opens with one question, in plain words, and answers it in a few lines. The detail follows, for when you want it.

What to do, and what can wait

Each chapter ends with what to do, what can wait, and where to find help. The list of what can wait is there so you can set those things aside.

Checked against the source

Every rule was checked against the agency, court or law it comes from. Figures that change are kept on one page at the back of each book, with the date they were last checked.

Information, not advice

The books explain how things usually work in the United States, what to ask, and who can answer for your situation. They don’t tell you what to choose.

The first two weeks, on paper

A free two-page checklist you can print. It covers the first fourteen days, in order, and what can wait. There is room to write down who you called and when.

Find your question

Each chapter answers one question. A few of them:

Every question in the eight books

Buying for someone you love?

Give her the one book for the time she is in, not the whole set. Which one to give, and what helps besides a book.

Hear when the next book is out

Five or six short emails a year at most, and a note when a new book is out. Each one is about something that tends to come up in the first two years. You can unsubscribe whenever you like.
